Interior Trim and Molding Application Benefits

Trim and molding are noticeable characteristics of a home.  Casings add personality to entrances or between rooms, baseboards define a room’s border, and ceiling molding adds sophistication.  Add trim and molding to raise the eye appeal and distinction to the home.

Starting at the Floor

Baseboards are the aesthetical foundation to the room.  This boundary trim can rise along the wall anywhere from one to ten inches.  Baseboard should run throughout the home, ensuring a transition from room to room.  Tie decorative baseboards to match the architectural design, such as colonial or modern, to complete the look.

Door Casings

A door between rooms is often a visual focal point, an avenue where family and friends pass through.  Define the entrance by use of door casings which protect the area around the door but also wrap into the next room for cohesion.  Door casings assist in transition appeal for interior design from room to room.

Crown Molding

Bold or subtle, crown molding raises the elegance of the room.  Crown molding runs across the upper wall and touches the ceiling.  The crown molding draws the eye upwards, visually expanding the height of the room.  Ornate molding strengthens the rooms character.

Match the styles of baseboards and crown molding to create a finished room.  Door casings do not necessarily need to match the base boards or moldings.  Keep the door casings simple to avoid over stimulation if the base boards and crown moldings are ornate.  Contrast paint colors of the walls and moldings to avoid clashes within your interior design. Have fun with the trim and moldings to personalize your living space.
