Can you believe it? Spring is just around the corner! With the warmer months approaching quickly, it’s time to start prepping your home for the change. We’ve compiled a list of what to do and when to help prepare your home for Spring.
The Great Purge
We love to start off a deep clean with a purge! Declutter anything and everything. We’re not saying to ditch it all and start fresh, but a spring cleaning is the perfect time to take a mental inventory of what you’ve used the last year and what is just taking up space. Do you have a stack of winter coats that didn’t even make it out of the closet this year? Beanies and boots that maybe had their day and are ready to retire? Now is the time! This doesn’t just go for your closet. Purge the whole home! It might sound a bit intimidating at first, but there are many great resources which help you divide things up into a manageable to-do to conquer every corner and closet of your home. We love this 30-day declutter challenge.
Safety First (or second in this case)
Your Spring clean is a great time to plan to check your smoke and CO2 detectors. Batteries should be replaced once a year and now is the perfect time to get into that routine, if you haven’t already.
Often, we look at the surfaces when cleaning. The floors, sinks, counters etc. Many forget to look up and clean things like ceiling fans, light fixtures and the tops of frames or artwork hanging. You can also take this time to replace light bulbs!
Windows and treatments
Windows and window treatments. This can be a daunting task but it has many benefits. Cleaning windows can help bring in a better natural light. Treatments are often overlooked when it comes to be cleaning. If you have drapery, give them a wash every so often. Blinds? Make sure to wipe them down.
We know, we know.. this one isn’t fun. But… it’s so nice when everything is all fresh and clean. Give all your appliances a once over, outside and inside!
Schedule maintenance for your heating and cooling systems
Your HVAC system needs to be cleaned and serviced occasionally and Springtime is a great time to get this taken care of. Your heating system worked hard over the winter and you want your cooling system to be ready to go come the warmer summer months. Make sure your HVAC system is working properly with yearly maintenance to avoid any bigger problems later on.
