Custom-Built Mercer Island Retreat

Tucked in an enclave of just five homes, this custom-built retreat sits in a lush private setting which lends an estate-like feel to the generous grounds. Step in to soaring interiors with newly refinished hardwoods, fresh paint, and dramatic windows framing the natural scenery. You’ll find all the right spaces for your lifestyle—whether you’re hosting friends, exploring culinary delights in the remodeled kitchen, or relaxing fireside in the lofty family room. Let’s take a tour of this custom-built Mercer Island retreat.

The Design

Our designer brought in a transitional look with some traditional touches. We took inspiration from the family room’s brown leather sofa and the gorgeous dining table, and balanced the warm neutrals with creams and whites. To elevate the final look, we also added wood and chrome accents.

Keeping the living room as open as possible while maintaining an element of coziness, we opted for a cream sofa and loveseat and a traditional armchair, anchored by a bold wood coffee table. This layout creates a conversational area framing, but not crowding, the fireplace. Over in the dining room, we used the homeowner’s dining table and a set of eight cream dining chairs with a simple centerpiece to leave the gorgeous backyard on full display.

For the bedrooms, we let each space lead with its own color palette. In the primary bedroom suite we continued the use of creamy neutrals to compliment the homeowners’ existing bed. We added a console table and an armchair to balance the layout of the room. Down the hall, the guest room sees calming blues. The teen room and kids room use pops of marigold and pink. These color schemes are vibrant while maintaining warmth, creating a sense of comfort that will be appealing to potential buyers.

On the lower level, we created a multipurpose media room. We added a sofa, ottoman, and two blue armchairs, as well as a desk. We used a tv console and prop tv to showcase a space perfect for entertaining family and friends. Finally, in the furnace room we added a cute craft table with colorful props to suggest a space for kids.
