Moving Into A New Home Checklist

Tasks do tend to get easier to manage when you have a checklist in hand, and moving into a new home is no exception. Once you draw up a checklist, keeping track of all the things you have to do related to your relocation would become more manageable. So what should your moving into a new home checklist contain?

Your budget

Relocating is going to cost you, so your checklist must reflect the funds you have on hand for purchasing packing materials, hiring professional movers, and other expenses that moving may entail.

The names of moving companies

Speaking of hiring professional movers, always have on your checklist the name of not just one company, but of three movers at least. Do your due diligence and find out which one can give you the best value for your dollar.

Dimensions of your new place

You also need to be aware of the measurements at your new home. You need to know how big the doorway is, among other things, so you’ll know if your favorite couch will fit through it. Knowing your new home’s dimensions will also help you make a floor plan and the best possible placements for your furniture, appliances, and other belongings.

A list of moving supplies

Do you need to transport breakable stuff? You’re going to need bubble wrap. Do you have wooden furniture? Then list down materials that could help protect them from scratches or dents during the move. Whatever packing material you need, always remember to put them on your checklist.

The target dates for the move

No moving into a new home checklist would ever be complete without any indication there of the target dates for moving day. If you haven’t settled on a date just yet, we recommend that you do it during the off-season. That’s between October to April, when the demand and rates for moving services are lower.

It’s always best to make your own checklist the moment your decision to move becomes final so you can prepare for it the earliest possible time. Don’t forget to include the items in our checklist, Happy Moving!
